Don't Sell Garbage
That's right - all the sales training in the world can't help you if you are hawking garbage.
Really though, most people aren't actually selling garbage - but they are selling products that don't solve their customers' problems. And a big part of selling is transferring your belief about a product to a prospect. If you don't believe in the product yourself, how are you going to get them to buy?
Unless you're a sociopath, you're probably a lot less convincing when you are selling something you don't believe in. So even if the product CAN solve the customer's problem, if you don't believe it can, you probably can't sell it.
Why? We all have verbal and non-verbal "tells" when we're holding things back. And when you don't believe in your product, you're definitely holding things back when you're talking about it. And while you probably can learn to suppress those tells, it's a lot easier to just sell amazing products that solve people's problems.
So, are you selling a product that stinks like a month-old fish? You should probably find a better use of your time.
